The Juli Wood Quartet received a grant from the Finlandia Foundation to make a follow up CD to the popular "Synkkä Metsä / Dark Forest " recording of Finnish folk songs. This new CD called " Suomen Salossa " again features some beautiful Finnish folk melodies played instrumentally by the quartet in jazz styles. The songs on the CD are; Piu Pau Paukkaa, Emma, Suomen Salossa , Moskovan Valot, Tulatulla, Kesä Yö ( Gershwin's " Summertime ), and Tulipunaruusut.
The players are; Juli Wood - tenor sax and vocals, Paul Silbergleit - guitar, Clay Schaub - bass and Mike Schlick - drums. Because of the generous FF grant , Juli was able to donate copies of the CD to the Salolampi Foundation to help with scholarship fund raising. All funds raised from the sale of this CD go to the Salolampi Scholarship Fund. " Suomen Salossa" is dedicated to the memory of two special Salolampi enthusiasts and supporters, Juli's parents, George and Miriam Hendrickson.
